For me, public service is not a political ambition—it is a calling. I am running for Houston County Commissioner, Post 2, because I believe you deserve leadership that is accessible, accountable, and focused on the people. Our government should work for you, and your voice must be heard before decisions are made that affect your family, neighborhood, and business. My vision is built on a simple principle: Together, We Can. Together, we can support our small businesses, expand access to affordable housing, invest in our youth, and stand up for our veterans and seniors. I don't believe one person can solve every challenge, but the answers are found when we work together. I am asking you to join me in building a stronger community, because leadership should always be about service, not self-interest, and people, not politics.
Our own Houston County 2022 comprehensive plan made it clear: finding affordable, appropriate housing is a major concern here, especially for families who do not qualify for subsidized housing but still struggle to find a place to live. The Georgia DCA reports that our housing production simply has not kept pace with our household growth, creating supply gaps across all income levels. I am ready to tackle this head-on with my Community Policy Initiative. As your representative, I will establish a workforce housing task force, create a dedicated housing trust fund, and utilize county-owned land to build affordable housing. We can close these gaps and ensure everyone in our community has a safe, stable place to call home.
Traffic and road capacity are probably the biggest recurring issues we face in our community. When we look at new development, we have to protect our infrastructure. For example, look at the proposed annexation and rezoning of 1302 Feagin Mill Road. The county initially objected because the increased development intensity would place too much pressure on Feagin Mill Road and our other local infrastructure. But through negotiations between the city, the landowner, and the developer, we found a better way forward. The project was modified to reduce the number of dwellings and increase green space, leading the county to withdraw its objection. This is the balanced approach I will bring to office—ensuring our growth never outpaces our roads.
When I look at our community, I see so much potential in our local entrepreneurs and the small businesses that keep us moving forward. If you elect me, one of my core focuses will be to actively strengthen our partnerships with these locally owned businesses. They are the true backbone of our neighborhood, and they do something incredibly important: they create jobs right here at home and keep our hard-earned money circulating within our own community. I want to make sure we are working hand-in-hand with our job creators so they can thrive. By supporting them, we are investing in ourselves and building a stronger, more resilient future for everyone.
